Expedition Twenty-Three: Our Journey Continues
Hello everyone,
Today, we're so excited to be launching our special anniversary expedition: Our Journey Continues. This expedition celebrates ten years since the launch of No Man's Sky, and it felt celebratory to make! Everything from the developer commentary, to the nostalgia-themed rewards, to the mechanics all felt like a celebration of No Man’s Sky and of Hello Games.
As a team, we tend to have our heads down, and don't often take time to reflect - but we've now released 41 named updates for No Man's Sky! So it was lovely to take the time to look back over that long journey.
We don't want to spoil too much, but we had a lot of fun resurrecting elements from previous versions of the game, and hiding easter eggs for long-term players to discover. We hope that Travellers who have been with us for a long time will enjoy remembering some of these updates, and newer Travellers will find it interesting to glimpse back in time!
Expedition Rewards
- A beautiful set of 9 framed artworks to display in your base, based on iconic cover art from some of the biggest NMS updates.
- A bobblehead companion for your starship cockpit, based on an old in-game test asset that was never released, but that did get discovered by some modders many years ago!
- The Starbound v0.27 Multi-Tool, newly designed from pre-release concept art.
-
-
- A golden edition of the Rasamama S36 starship - the original starter ship from the launch of the game.
- A vintage Sentinel Interceptor ship, reconstructed from the original ship models shown in pre-release footage and lovingly modernised and detailed by our art team.
- A diplodocus companion, reconstructed from the original diplo models shown in pre-release footage.
(Developer note: when we first implemented the set of 9 artworks and tested them, the game threw an error we'd never actually seen before: "Too many rewards to display in reward 'Phase 1'"!)
(Developer note: the team really threw themselves into this - the art team re-textured, re-rigged, and re-animated this ancient beast, and the code team did loads of work on its IK to help it navigate slopes elegantly.)
Our Journey Continues starts today, and will run for approximately six weeks.
Begin the expedition from the Expedition Terminus aboard the Space Anomaly – or from a fresh new save, which may later be converted to a Normal Mode save.
All the exclusive rewards earned from completing the expedition phases may be redeemed across all save games, available from the Quicksilver Synthesis Companion aboard the Space Anomaly.
Thank you so much for playing.
Our journey continues.
Sean
